Latin name: Grifola frondoza.
English title: maitake.
Chinese name: zhu-ling.
Family: Albatrellovye Albatrellaceae.
Sort by: Grifola.
The ability to reduce the weight and gave it another name - the fungus Japanese geishas. Fragile geisha because of the special Japanese etiquette in the Middle Ages had otkushivat all meals served to their guests. This, they argued that in this place there is no intention to settle scores with the guests of honor, and even if someone would encroach add poison in a delicious dish - suffer primarily submissive geisha.
Perhaps, for the health of a geisha, it was not so devastating, but fragility had to be protected. And here came to the aid of the maitake mushroom. Each of the geisha always had a ready-made powder from this mushroom - they either poured it into their food, or drank a decoction or an infusion of meytake. And they were fragile and half-airy, even obviously handling in calories. A fairly serious study in a Tokyo clinic involving 30 overweight people who were getting mushrooms in the diet showed that patients lost from 2,5 kg to 14 kg for 8 weeks. In addition to additives from maitake mushrooms, patients did not change anything in their usual diet.
He has another amazing property - to reduce menopausal effects in women. MD, a gynecologist, Kasuko Isuzu says that taking this fungus is able to reduce the frequency of hot flushes, sweating, irritability withdraw during the menopausal woman's body adjustment. In addition, this fungus is perfectly displays cholesterol, which is very good in this period.
Mushroom Meytake is able to reduce and eliminate the unpleasant effects of premenstrual syndrome - irritability, nagging pains, headaches, weakness and fatigue. In 14 century Chinese physician Wu Rui claimed that mushrooms meytake very useful in the treatment of various forms of female ailments. Probably, it is the only physician who should be noted in connection with this discovery.
It is used in medicine:
- malignancies (Sarcoma, carcinoma, melanoma and other cancer diseases) - part of the so-called "Mushroom triad";
- benign tumors (tumor processes of the female genital area - mastopathy, adenomas, fibroids, ovarian cysts, pituitary adenomas, etc.). In 1981, at the Congress of the Hungarian Society of Fungotherapists, the Hungarian scientist Dr. L. Glati and his colleagues stated, based on their own experience on the effects of maytake in gynecology, that the use of these mushrooms has no analogues in effectiveness with any well-known drug. In addition, the meitake has the ability to normalize the hormonal background in women. Even large fibroids go away in a year and a half with a minimum intake (1-2 capsules per day);
- included in the treatment methodology diabetes 1-2-first and second types;
- used in the treatment of overweight in the diet "Yamakiro";
- antiviral activity of the drug is used in the treatment of viral hepatitis B and C;
- hormonal disorders, mainly in women. This is a mushroom that is traditionally used in Chinese and Japanese cooking. It grows wild in Japan and in the wild forests of parts of China. Wild meitake gathers in September-October. It grows mainly near the roots of large trees such as Mizunara, Quercus crispula, Buna, Fagus crenata, and Shiinoki, Castanopsis cuspidata. plum, Prunus salicina; apricot, Prunus armeniaca var. anzu; peach, Prunus persica var. vulgaris; and oaks, Quercus serrata. Meitake is one of the fungi that invades the core of these trees. At the same time, it destroys lignins, processing them into cellulose. This is the reason for the so-called white rot. Wild meitake has good taste and excellent aroma.
The scientific name meytake - "Grifola frondosa" comes from the name of the fungus found in Italy. This name refers to the mythical animal that is polulvom and poluorlom.
The Japanese name "meytake" is associated with its form, which resembles a dancing nymph. The origin of the name mateake - "dancing mushroom", still causes discussion, but according to one version, people who were lucky enough to find this mushroom danced with joy, as in the feudal era this mushroom was given its weight in silver, and on the other - before ripping this mushroom, it was necessary to perform a certain ritual dance, otherwise the mushroom lost its properties. Meitake sometimes reaches a gigantic size - over 50 cm in diameter and up to 4 kg in weight. Therefore it is not surprising that meytake is one of the most valuable and expensive mushrooms in Japan.
Meytake in Chinese folk medicine called «Zhu-ling», «Keisho» and «the Shen Ner Ben Cao jing» (Shen - scripture, Ner - grass), before using this fungus to "reduce anger and abdominal disease, calming the nerves and hemorrhoids cure. "
Meytake has beneficial effects in diabetes mellitus, chronic fatigue syndrome, chronic hepatitis, obesity, high blood pressure. Mushroom maitake helps the body to adapt to stress and normalizes the body's functions. According to research, this fungus is more effective when taken simultaneously with other oriental mushrooms (shiitake). Together with specialists in fungi, mycologists and pharmacologists, valuable medical properties of meytake were discovered: in addition to strong antitumor properties, these fungi help in diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, atherosclerosis, obesity, and hepatitis B and C, its antiviral activity against the HIV virus (AIDS) was also confirmed by the American National Cancer Institute back in 1992.
In addition to the above, meytake has a wonderful property to reduce weight due to the normalization of metabolic and hormonal processes, therefore the preparation of this fungus is included in the famous Japanese "Yamakiro" weight loss system.
Information for Professionals
The therapeutic effect meytake fungus is mainly due to a high content of polysaccharides: beta-1,6-glycans. In experimental studies, it has been found that these compounds inhibit the growth and prevent the occurrence of many cancers, destroying human immunodeficiency viruses (HIV), stimulate the activity of T-lymphocytes and SD4 cells. Meytake has beneficial effects in diabetes, chronic fatigue syndrome, chronic hepatitis, obesity, high blood pressure.
A recent study showed that two particularly active polysaccharide: the so-called D-fraction, which is superior in its effectiveness by prior anti-cancer drugs and Grifolan. These fractions exhibit a high immunomodulating properties. D-fraction meytake fungi consists of in-1,6-linked glycans with In-branches 1,3 1,3 or B-glycans associated with B-1,6 glycosides and has a molecular weight -1 x 106 Daltons.
In experiments on laboratory animals it has been shown that d-fraction has a pronounced anti-tumor effect, which is associated with increased production of interleukin 1, and Grifolan - increases the cytotoxic activity of the macrophages. These results suggest that d-fraction affects not only through the activation of various immune directional actuators (macrophages, CTL, natural killer cells, etc.) which inhibit tumor cells by potentiating but various lymphokines.
Other high molecular weight polysaccharide meytake X fraction has been shown in laboratory and clinical studies, normalize blood sugar levels and insulin sensitivity in type II diabetes.
Meytake Researchers have identified four specific ways that resist cancer:
- protects healthy cells;
- prevent metastasis;
- slows down or stops the growth of tumors;
- works in conjunction with chemotherapy to reduce its side effects, such as hair loss, pain, nausea and increasing its positive effects.
Protection against malignancy. In studies that show how meytake protects healthy cells from malignancy (malignancy) was conducted an experiment in which twenty-five-week mice was introduced carcinogen 3-MCA (methylcholanthrene). On the fifteenth day after the administration of ten mice were fed 0.2 mg meytake D-fraction for subsequent 15 days. Another ten mice in the control group - meytake not given. At the end of thirty days, the number of mice with cancer was 30,7 percent meytake group and 93,2 percent in the control group.
Growth arrest and subsequent regression of tumors. In another study, the mice were treated with a known carcinogen acting on the bladder-N-butyl-N-butanol-nitrosamine, otherwise-BBN, every day for eight weeks, after which all mice appeared to have advanced bladder cancer. Then mice were given drugs from medicinal mushrooms - meytake and shiitake. All fungi significantly reduced the number of bladder cancer tumors, meitake and shiitake showed 46,7 and 52,9 percent of the disappeared tumors, respectively. Prevention of metastasis. In studies that show how meytake prevents the metastasis of cancer, an experiment was made in which the researchers injected tumor cells into the gallbladder of mice. The gallbladder was cut off 48 hours later. The mice were divided into three groups. The control group received normal food, while the other two groups received: the second - meytake powder as 20 percent of their diet, the third 1 mg / kg D-fraction. After 30 days, the mice were examined for metastases in the liver. In the control group, 100% of the animals showed metastasis. In comparison with her, the D-fraction prevented 91,3% of the total, and the meytake powder, as an additive to the main food - 81.3%.
Synergism with chemotherapy. Another interesting research has been devoted to increasing anti-tumor activity in the combination of D-fraction and the drugs used in chemotherapy. In artificially induced tumors in mice experiments, d-fraction found higher properties of tumor suppression, compared with chemotherapy (approximately 70% against 30%). When the D-fraction and chemotherapy were given together (with a reduction of each dose by half), the tumor suppression was observed in almost 98%.
