Currently intensively developed various methods of biotherapy (Fungoterapiya, peptidoterapiya, photodynamic therapy, new vaccines, methods of gene therapy, etc.) for cancer. Advances in molecular biology, immunology, an in-depth understanding of the mechanisms of tumor progression and the relationship between the immune system and the tumor, as well as the development of biotechnology have provided real prospects for improving the results of tumor treatment using biotherapy methods. An indisputable fact is that in recent decades, undoubted success has been achieved in the treatment of malignant tumors, primarily due to the complex application of medicinal methods: chemotherapy and biotherapy. Biotherapy hand Includes many means and methods of mostly natural origin, as well as a number of genetic engineering products, biotechnology products, synthetic compounds based on the restoration of natural defense mechanisms against cancer, antitumor immunity or having a direct antitumor effect, generally safe for healthy tissues. And the number of biotherapeutic methods is constantly growing. Phytopreparations in the biotherapy of cancer and precancer belongs to a decisive role. They are harmoniously combined with antiproliferative cell peptides, extracts of fungi, enzyme complexes based on proteases, vaccines and vaccine-like agents, omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, carotenoids, etc.
The use of cancer biotherapy in a broad oncology practice is just beginning. There is no doubt that the problem of increasing the effectiveness of antitumor treatment can be solved only as a result of the integrated use of standard therapy and biotherapy. Obviously, both the prevention of oncological morbidity in general, and the prevention of relapses and metastases after the standard treatment of malignant neoplasms, are impossible without the use of biotherapy. Biological therapy directly or indirectly uses the body's immune system to fight cancer and alleviate the side effects caused by standard cancer treatments.
Cancer Biotherapy - objectives:
- (basic) tumor immunotherapy to obtain an immediate antitumor effect;
- reduction of side effects of standard antitumor therapy: correction of the general toxic effect, antioxidant effects of immunosuppression and treatment of myelosuppression;
- tumor relapse prevention;
- prevention and treatment of concomitant infectious and other complications.
Modern achievements in molecular biology, immunology, an in-depth understanding of the mechanisms of tumor progression and the relationship of the immune system and tumor, as well as the development of biotechnology have led to real prospects for a significant improvement in the results of treatment of tumors with the help of biotherapy. Already today, biotherapy is highly effective for a number of types of tumors and is especially widely used in cancer of the 4 stage, thanks to which cases of cancer remission are observed. And it is surprising that from the point of view of standard antitumor therapy they are considered as spontaneous and causeless.
The fate of many biological products, despite encouraging results (long periods of remission in cancer patients, improvement of the general condition, analgesic effects in almost all cases, including stage 4 of the disease), remains unresolved. This also applies to a number of peptide drugs, fungi, methods of photodynamic therapy, vaccines, mistletoe therapy, gingko extracts, etc. The answer to this question follows from the following. From the point of view of evidence-based medicine, such drugs are not monocomponent. They contain more than one chemical. Modern pharmacological standards (Good Clinical Practice, etc.) imply the conduct of clinical trials of a rigidly standardized drug with a proven one active ingredient, which is unacceptable for products of natural origin. They have antitumor effects due to the synergistic action of the complex of biologically active substances contained. In addition, the regulated procedure for standardizing the composition of the drug cannot be extrapolated to such drugs, since their composition can have significant fluctuations, depending on weather conditions (for phytopreparations, fungal preparations), the ecological situation and the growing regime (for peptide drugs) and other factors. Synthetic cytostatics and hormones introduced into oncological practice are devoid of these "disadvantages".
Pharmacological concerns are interested in "pushing" this kind of standardized means, since the commercial success from them is much higher than from natural ones. On the one hand, this unlimited volume of their production (for natural resources, restrictions are associated with the quality of the harvested crop or biomaterial), on the other hand, the development of standards for admission to the market for themselves in order to “cut off” competitors. And all this despite the fact that chemotherapeutic agents are extremely dangerous for healthy organs and tissues, in contrast to biotherapeutic agents.
Alternative Cancer Treatments
Oncological diseases, which are the cause of many human tragedies, are at the same time a source of prosperity for the pharmaceutical business and super-profits. Therefore, more expensive and costly methods of treatment gain an advantage over relatively simple and affordable ones, while the latter, among which there are many effective ones, by the will of legislators from medicine, are ignored and do not receive permission for use. And this despite the fact that none of the drugs recognized by them is able to solve the problem. At the same time, among the so-called alternative unrecognized drugs, many have a convincing justification in relation to the effect on the tumor process. Even the term "evidence-based medicine" has appeared to please the interests of pharmaceutical companies and their researchers. At the same time, one cannot but pay attention to the many distortions of the evidence base itself and the assessment of the real situation. Underestimation of individual means and methods of exposure and the possibility of including them in treatment and prevention programs is widespread. Everyone loses: both supporters of standard treatment and supporters of biotherapy, but, most importantly, patients lose.
Therefore, despite the sufficient number of scientifically proven effectiveness of the methods and means Cancer BiotherapyThey remain in service with private health care or as a complementary (additional) means of cancer therapy in terms of the standard anticancer therapy and are not paid by insurance companies.
